Position Overview

JKKN College of Nursing invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor – Medical Surgical Nursing.

The faculty member will be responsible for teaching and mentoring students in Medical Surgical Nursing, with a strong focus on adult health, clinical reasoning, patient assessment, evidence-based nursing care, disease management, and clinical competency.

The role requires an academic professional who can effectively connect theoretical concepts with real-world clinical situations and prepare students to manage patients with a wide range of acute, chronic, complex, and emergency health conditions.

The selected candidate will contribute to teaching, clinical supervision, curriculum development, research, student mentoring, academic assessment, and the continuous enhancement of nursing education through innovative and AI-enabled approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality undergraduate teaching in Medical Surgical Nursing and related areas of adult health nursing.

  • Plan and conduct lectures, tutorials, practical sessions, seminars, case discussions, demonstrations, and simulation-based learning.

  • Teach students the principles of comprehensive nursing care for patients with medical and surgical conditions.

  • Develop students' competence in patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, care planning, implementation, evaluation, documentation, and discharge planning.

  • Integrate clinical cases and real-world scenarios into classroom teaching to strengthen students' clinical reasoning and decision-making abilities.

  • Supervise and guide students during hospital postings, clinical rotations, internships, and other experiential learning activities.

  • Help students develop competency in caring for patients across medical, surgical, emergency, and specialty care settings.

  • Strengthen students' understanding of common and complex conditions affecting major body systems, including cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, gastrointestinal, renal, endocrine, musculoskeletal, and other systems.

  • Facilitate learning related to perioperative nursing, emergency care, infection prevention, pain management, rehabilitation, and patient safety.

  • Use simulation, digital clinical resources, case-based learning, virtual learning tools, and appropriate AI-enabled technologies to enhance student learning.

  • Develop and update lesson plans, clinical teaching materials, case studies, practical manuals, assignments, question banks, and competency-based assessments.

  • Mentor students in academic progress, clinical performance, professional conduct, research activities, internships, and career development.

  • Identify learning gaps and provide appropriate academic and clinical support to students.

  • Conduct internal assessments, practical examinations, clinical evaluations, viva voce, and other competency-based assessments.

  • Encourage students to practise evidence-based nursing and critically evaluate clinical information obtained from digital and AI-enabled resources.

  • Guide students in using AI responsibly for literature exploration, case preparation, academic revision, and research while emphasizing source verification, patient confidentiality, and academic integrity.

  • Undertake research in Medical Surgical Nursing, adult health, clinical nursing practice, patient outcomes, nursing education, healthcare technology, or related areas.

  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and participate in conferences, seminars, workshops, and professional forums.

  • Encourage and supervise student research projects, case studies, clinical presentations, and innovation initiatives.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, hospital administrators, clinical instructors, and other healthcare professionals to strengthen clinical education.

  • Contribute to curriculum development and periodic revision based on current healthcare practices, clinical requirements, and emerging technologies.

  • Participate in departmental meetings, academic committees, accreditation activities, quality initiatives, and institutional programmes.

  • Contribute to the development of a clinically relevant, evidence-based, technology-enabled, and student-centred nursing education environment.

Educational Qualifications

  • M.Sc. Nursing with specialization in Medical Surgical Nursing from a recognized institution.

  • Ph.D. in Nursing will be an added advantage.

  • Valid registration with the appropriate State Nursing Council / Indian Nursing Council, as applicable.

  • Additional qualifications or certifications in nursing education, healthcare technology, simulation-based education, or related areas will be advantageous.

Experience

  • Relevant teaching experience in Medical Surgical Nursing will be preferred.

  • Clinical experience in medical-surgical wards, specialty units, critical care, emergency care, or other relevant hospital settings will be an advantage.

  • Experience in clinical supervision, student mentoring, curriculum development, assessment, and nursing research is desirable.

  • Candidates should demonstrate the ability to effectively connect classroom teaching with current clinical practice.
