Report on Hands on Training attended at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore
Theme: Next-gen Industry solutions for Product Design, using 3D Experience
Resource Person: Mr. G. Vergin Vino, Design Engineer, Tamil Nadu Centre of Excellence for
Advanced Manufacturing (TANCAM, Chennai)

Report:
In the Introduction session, the resource person explained the Design Thinking process
followed in design industries especially in automobile sector. Further he explained about the
initiatives being taken for the college students to bridge the gap between their knowledge level
with the industries’ expectations.
After the introduction session, the resource person explained about the features of ‘3D
Experience’ software and its advantageous usage in the design industries in detail. He detailed
about the plenty of job opportunities available for the design engineers and explained about the
actual roles of a dedicated and good design engineer.
In the morning session, the resource person detailed the various constraints can be defined
and various tools / commands that can be used to design simple components in the 3D Experience
software. He taught the step-by-step procedure to design a propeller blade using simple commands.
In the afternoon session, the resource person explained the simple steps to analyze a
structural component subjected to loading condition using 3D Experience software. This session
covered the following maters: ‘How to mesh structural elements?’, ‘How to define the boundary
conditions?’, ‘How to apply the loading conditions?’, ‘How to solve the problem in FEA?’, ‘How
to read the results?’ and ‘How to simulate the solved case?’ using 3D Experience software. The
resource person briefed about the various advantages and user-friendliness of the 3D Experience
software over Catia, Solidworks, Creo and ANSYS softwares.
HOD detailed about the MoU signed with the TIDCO and its activities being carried out to
the students. He also explained about the placement activities through the MoU signed with
Capgemini, Chennai.
Outcomes of attending the Event:
Got a contact with the resource person; discussed with him about the possibilities to sign
MoU with the TIDCO (Collaborated with Dassault Systems) and the benefits through the
MoU to our students
Got a contact with a lecturer and a trainer / Department of Mechanical Engineering, PSG
Polytechnic College, Coimbatore. They told about the FDPs they are regularly conducting
on additive manufacturing concepts by involving various industrial experts.
Got an exposure to the new cloud platform – ‘3D Experience’ software. Our students can
be motivated to learn this software; and internships can be arranged to the interested
students to get exposure to this software.
